Songhua River

Songhua River is one of the seven major rivers in China and the largest tributary of Heilongjiang in China. Songhua River was called Nanhe River in Sui Dynasty, Nashui River in Tang Dynasty, Yak River and Huntong River in Liao and Jin Dynasty, and Huntong River, Songhua River in Qing Dynasty. It flows through the two provinces of Jilin and Heilongjiang, with a drainage area of 557,200 square kilometers, covering Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, and Inner Mongolia in the four northeastern provinces, with an annual runoff of 76.2 billion cubic meters.

This section of the Songhua River flowing through the urban area of Harbin has long become an important sight of the city. In winter, the frozen surface of the river becomes a tourist attraction for people. You can experience horse-drawn carriage and snow circle activities on the river. In summer, the Songhua River is also a good place for people to enjoy the coolness and take a walk.

The Songhua River is a larger tributary of Heilongjiang, and the main artery of the northeast region. It has two main tributaries. One is the second Songhua River originating from the Tianchi Lake of Baitou Mountain, and the other is the Nenjiang River originating from the Xiaoxing’an Mountains. The two tributaries converge at Fuyu County and are called the Songhua River before turning northeast to Tongjiang County and into Heilongjiang.

In winter, the frozen Songhua River ice is about half a meter thick. People and horse-drawn carriages can walk on the ice. When there is snow, it will be soft. This section of the river in Harbin is about 100 meters wide. On the river surface near the Monument to the Heroes of Flood Control, there are skiing circles, skating tracks, ice games, snow tanks, and ice bike rides. Adults and children can experience it.

In general, to visit Harbin, you must look at the Songhua River, Heilongjiang’s mother river. There are many ways to play on the Songhua River. One of the most cost-effective ways is to walk on the glass plank road cable bridge. The scenery is beautiful when the weather is fine, and the autumn sky and clear blue sky unique to northern cities are refreshing.
